Overview

The experience

Trace the path of two million animals. Our mobile camps move every few months to ensure you are at the heart of the river crossings. This is the ultimate cycle of life and death. You will hear the thunder of hooves before you see them; you will witness the raw power of nature as herds face the currents of the Mara River and the watchful eyes of the Nile crocodiles. We use "Fly-In" logistics to maximize your time in the most active migration zones.

What to expect

  • Herds stretching to the horizon
  • Predators following the migration
  • Seasonal camps placed close to the action
  • Long, patient days in the field

How it works

What it looks like on the ground

  1. Day 1-4

    The Crossroads of the Mara

Positioned at the northern edge of the Serengeti. We wait patiently near the river banks, ready for the moment the "alpha" wildebeest takes the first plunge into the water.

  2. Day 5-7

    Following the Herds South

As the herds move, so do we. Explore the central plains where the migration spreads out into an endless sea of black and gold silhouettes.

  3. Day 8-10

    The Calving Grounds

During the early months, we focus on the Ndutu region where half a million calves are born in a three-week window—nature's ultimate display of renewal.

What to bring

  • Binoculars
  • Camera with a 100–400 mm lens
  • Warm layer for early mornings
  • Neutral-coloured clothing
  • Sun hat and sunscreen

Good to know

  • The herds follow the rain, so exact locations change from year to year.
  • River crossings cannot be predicted to the hour; several nights near the river improves your chances.
  • July–October is peak season, so book camps early.
